City of Exile – Nashik
Nashik city got its name from Nashika meaning nose. Legends of the Ramayana say that when Ram, Sita and Lakshman were in exile they stayed in a serene forest – Tapovan and Shrupnakhas nose was cut by Lakshman here which led to kidnapping of Sita by Ravana from the land of five trees – Panchvati. Close to these places is the sacred holy pond – Ramkund, where the trio used to take their bath. Situated 30 Kms outside the city on the banks of river Godavari, these places attract tourists from far off places. Nashik also holds the Kumbh Mela a sacred Hindu festival celebrated every twelve years.
