Auto component maker Bosch said it will invest Rs 2,200 crore in India in the next two years to enhance its production capacity and develop new technologies for the domestic market.

The company, which achieved sales of Rs 11,000 crore in 2011, said the investment is in line with its strategy to increase focus on localising its products and maintain a growth of 20-21 per cent in the coming years in India.

Besides, Bosch announced that the company will invest Rs 140 crore to support research activities at universities in India in the next 10 years.

“Between 2012 and 2013, the Bosch Group plans to invest some 22 billion rupees (Rs 2,200 crore) in India. Most of these funds will go into further expanding our local activities,” Bosch Automotive Group Chairman Bernd Bohr told reporters.

He said a major portion of the investment will go on increasing the production capacities of its existing facilities located in Nashik, Jaipur and Ahmedabad.

“As Asia’s emerging economies develop, demand for small, low cost vehicles will continue to grow.

As the second home phenomenon gains currency in the industrially-developed Mumbai-Pune- Nashik belt, realty player Eiffel Group has earmarked Rs 300 crore over the next three years to launch more projects in the region, referred to as the state’s ‘golden triangle’.

“Eiffel Group is primarily into plot development. In realty parlance, plotted development means a developer sells large tracts of land after building basic infrastructure like sewage systems and roads.

“We will be investing around Rs 300 crore for acquiring land as well as building the necessary infrastructure in this area. Besides, we may also develop certain residential facilities here, which we can promote as second homes,” Eiffel Group director Shirish Mulekar told news agency.

“Investment in real estate is the best option today. There is an enormous appetite for plots situated within 90-100 km radius of the Mumbai-Pune-Nashik belt, both for ownership as well as an investment,” Mulekar said.

He said, areas such as Pen, Neral, Khalapur and Pali, near Mumbai, are a part of the golden triangle and therefore are on the cusp of rapid development as several infrastructure projects are coming up in the vicinity.

“Buyers are looking for investing in prime home projects in the city and its vicinity, as prices are on fire in the city. But a property, with lower ticket price gives an opportunity even to a common man as well as investors,” he said.

Moreover, Maharashtra has laid huge emphasis on infrastructure in the golden triangle, such as Panvel-Karjat rail connectivity, Murbad highway and Sewri-Nhava Sheva transharbour link.

“These projects make the area ready for aggressive development,” he said.

The company has already acquired 500 acre in the area for plotted development and plans to acquire another 2,500 acres over the next two years.

The mercury in Nashk dropped to 8.8 degrees Celsius on December 23, 2011 as recorded by MET department marking the lowest of the season so far.

Nashik known for its cold temperatures, has started experiencing a chill in the weather. The city had seen a pleasant few days people were enjoying the winter.

On Thursday December 22, 2011, the temperature was 9.8 degrees Celsius which dropped further by a degree the next day. While the morning and evenings show a dip in the temperature, the afternoons are still warm with around 28 degrees Celsius.

The winter has also seen the arrival of visiting birds at Nandur Madhmeshwar bird sanctuary and many enthusiasts are seen flocking about 50 kms away from the city to watch the visiting birds.

The city wears a colorful look as people are seen dressed in winter clothing. Bonfires at nook and corners is a common sight.

The mood in the city is festive with children busy with school functions and cultural programmes. The city is also witnessing the 20-20 Nashik Premier League cricket matches and exhibitions like the Children’s festival.

“Winters in Nashik are good. A few years ago the winters used to be really cold. By December the temperatures dropped around 5 degrees Celsius. A nice chill is awaited which gives an occasion for hurda parties on the farms and savouring of other winter delicacies”, says Vikram Giridarshan who lives in Nashik.

Dhanteras is celebrated as the first day of the Diwali Festival, in most parts of north India. The festival is also known as “Dhantrayodashi” or “Dhanvantari Triodasi”. The Dhan in Dhanteras means wealth. On this day, the “Owl” form of Goddess Laxmi is worshiped to provide prosperity and well being. It holds a special significance for the business community as purchases of precious metals are done on this day.

Here is an interesting story on why this day is celebrated. It was said that the sixteen year old son of King Hima was doomed to die of a snake-bite on the fourth day of his marriage. So, on the fourth day of his marriage, his young wife did not allow him to sleep. She laid out gold ornaments and lots of silver coins in a big heap at the entrance of her husband’s room and lighted many lamps all over the place. She went on telling stories and singing songs. When Yama, the god of Death, arrived there in the form of a snake, his eyes got blinded by the reflection of those bright lights and could not enter the King’s chamber. So he climbed on top of the heap of ornaments and coins and sat there the whole night listening to the melodious songs. In the morning he quietly went away. Thus the young wife saved her husband from the clutches of death. Since then this day of Dhanteras came to be known as the day of “Yamadeepdaan” and lamps are kept burning throughout the night in reference to the worship to Yama, the god of Death.

With an aim to tap the higher middle class and leisure travellers, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), which runs the luxury train Deccan Odyssey, plans to use the train for Religious Tourism to the popular pilgrimage destination, Shirdi in Ahmednagar district. MTDC will charge around Rs 20,000 per person for the round trip. The journey will also cover Trimbakeshwar, venue of one of the Jyotirlinga Temples, near Nashik. The refurbished train is expected to make its first run in a week’s time.

An MTDC official said, “When first commissioned, the train used to take tourists around Maharashtra (there was also a day trip to Goa) to promote tourism in the state. But this did not receive an encouraging response and we handed over the train to a private operator. Now the train has been repainted from navy blue to purple and the interiors have undergone much change. Soon, we will run two-night round trips to Shirdi, the schedule for which is yet to be finalised.” He added that the train will leave Mumbai once a week at night and reach Shirdi the next morning. The train will proceed to Nashik before returning.

According to a report by Yogesh Naik in Mumbai Mirror, while the move has been welcomed by the Shirdi temple authorities, they wonder if the steep fare will make it a feasible plan. Jayant Sasane, Chairman, Shirdi Sai Sansthan Trust said, “It’s a very good idea to have a day’s trip to Shirdi, but the fare is high. Who will pay Rs 20,000 per passenger? Some years ago, a private company ran chartered services for which the return fare was just Rs 7,000. If MTDC halves the proposed fare, many will find it affordable.”

Sugreeva, the Kishkintha prince in exile, came to know about Rama and Lakshmana through his lookouts, wandering in the Risyamukha forest. He felt queasy, and after discussing with his assistants, who were also hiding along with him, asked his emissary Hanuman to go and check on the two. He initially thought that his brother Vaali might have sent spies, to finish him off in the forest itself.

Lord Hanuman, on seeing the princes, was drawn towards them with an unknown but powerful force, and after coning to know of their problems and identities, reverted to his original form, went on his knees and explained to them his own position. He told Lord Rama and Lakshmana about who he was and what brought him to Risyamukha Mountain. He then explained to the princes about the problems of Sugreeva, and what really happened between the twin brothers.

Lord Hanuman made several references to the similarities between the problems faced by Rama and Lakshmana, and to that of Sugreeva. He told them, about what Sugreeva could do as help, and why it was right to help him. He also assured them of Sugreeva’s capable support, and took them to the exiled prince of Kishkintha.

Sugreeva was surprised to find Hanuman bringing in the two warriors, with royalty and misery written on their faces. After receiving the princes with due respect, Sugreeva, helped by Hanuman’s scholarly approach, made a pact with Lord Rama. Lord Rama would help Sugreeva in defeating his twin brother Vaali and become the king of Kishkintha. In return, Sugreeva would mobilize his great army of Vanaras and search and find Sita.
