The train, 01035 Dn, will leave Mumbai’s CST at 10.15am and arrive at 2.20pm in Nashik, while the 01036 Up will depart Nashik Road at 3.35pm and arrive at 8.10pm in Mumbai. Meanwhile, there was confusion among railway officials about the train and the duration that it would run. The officials at Bhusawal division were unable to confirm about the train but a railway official from Mumbai confirmed that it will start running from Friday. However, they were not sure whether it would be a temporary arrangement or would it continue after June 1.

“If at all a train is being started, it could be a holiday special,” said the railway official in Bhusawal. But another official said it was slightly difficult to comprehend why the railways would start a holiday special between two destinations that were a mere 188 km away and there was no seasonal rush. Also, there were other modes of inter-city travel available that would meet the demand during the season, the official said.

Sources point out that there has been a demand from the passengers for a train between the two cities.

“There was a long pending demand for a train from Mumbai to Nashik Road in the morning and back in the afternoon. It is in this time slot that the railways has chosen to introduce a train,” a railway official said.

But he dismissed the idea that the Rajya Rani Express rakes were being put to double-utility service as proposed by a Nashik-based NGO Rail Parishad. “Considering the time Rajya Rani reaches LTT (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Kurla) and the time this train leaves Mumbai, they hardly match. But this study could further help to reduce and adjust timings wherever required to ensure that Rajya Rani rakes can be substituted for optimal use of infrastructure,” the official said.

The first Wine Club House will be set up over eight acres and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has given its approval to allocate it for the proposed wine cluster project at Godavari Wine Park, located nearly 50 km from the city.

“Basically, wine is tourism-based business and we had requested the MTDC to set up a Wine Club House at locations where wine is produced,” Jagdish Holkar, chairman of Indian Grape Processing Board and president of All-India Wine Producers’ Association, told TOI.

The decision to set p the Wine Club House was taken at a meet of senior officials of MTDC, MIDC, office-bearers of Indian Grape Processing Board and All-India Wine Producers’ Association and chaired by deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in Mumbai.

The Wine Club House will include wine art gallery, wine museum and media centre. Grape wine will be served to tourists in the Wine Club House. “The main concept is to promote grape wine in Maharashtra. We also had plans to have a centre in Ambad but the proposal was rejected by MIDC due to lack of land,” Holkar said.

The Union ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises had announced a wine cluster for Nashik under the medium small enterprises cluster development programme and the Wine Club House is part of it. “The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 20 crore. The Centre will provide 70% of the total cost, while the rest will be raised by stakeholders of Nashik Valley Wine Cluster,” an office-bearer of All-India Wine Producers’ Association said.

The common facility centre will be set up at the wine park under the wine cluster project. Of the total 92 wineries in the country, Maharashtra’s share is 74. As many as 36 wineries are in Nashik, 12 in Pune, 13 in Sangli, five in Solapur, four in Usmanabad, three in Buldhana and one in Latur.

According to a company release, this is a part of the Rs 2,200-crore investment for the entire Bosch Group in India announced in January.

“The funds will go towards significant capacity expansion, increase in production space along with increase in headcount,” the release added.

In the wake of improved demand for diesel injection equipment, Bosch Nashik plant has invested substantially in enhancing its capacity. Production of common rail injection systems has gone up by 60 per cent and nozzle holders by 20 per cent.

The Nashik plant is investing in enhancing the production space to the tune of 35,000 sq.m. to meet the expansion plan.

Apart from production space, funds have also been allocated for a new office building, which is expected to accommodate 140 persons. In terms of headcount, 2012 will see the recruitment of over 400 persons in different areas of work.

Mr Gopikumar, Vice-President – Commercial, Bosch Ltd Nashik plant, said: “Our commitment to Nashik is undisputed. We are playing a very important role in contributing towards meeting market demand of the Bosch Group in India.”

The stalls will be put up in two categories – Covered Carpeted Prefabricated Stalls (CCPS) and Covered Open Space (COS) in different sizes. Around two lakh people from business and trade are expected to visit the expo,” an office-bearer from NIMA said.

“Preparations for the expo are in the final stages. Many companies have already confirmed their participation in the expo, while the rest of the stalls are expected to be booked in a day or two. Nima Index is a major triennial event organized with the objective of providing a platform for direct interaction between buyers and sellers and providing opportunities to all types of industries, traders, service providers and professionals to exhibit all their products and services,” the office-bearer added.

Stalls are to be divided into different categories – machine tools, instrumentation and machinery, hardware, tools and equipments, automobiles, spares and sub-contracting, electrical, switchgear and equipments, IT, software development and computer, electronic and instrumentation, non-conventional energy equipments, rubber, plastic, fibre and allied products, packaging and machinery and healthcare equipments.

The minimum temperature recorded in the early hours of Thursday was 2.7 degree Celsius, the lowest minimum temperature in last 40 years. Earlier, the lowest minimum temperature recorded was 0.9 degree Celsius on February 14, 1972. The minimum temperature in the city is expected to be in the range of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the next-two three days.

The cold wave that swept Nashik a month ago, with minimum temperatures dipping to 4.4 degree Celsius, returned once again on Wednesday. The minimum temperature recorded on Tuesday, 12.2 degree Celsius, dipped by 3.8 degrees Celsius to 8.4 degree Celsius on Wednesday.

“Snowfall in north India has caused this sudden fall in the minimum temperature and winds are flowing from north to south. The minimum temperature in the city is expected to remain in the range of 3 to 5 degree Celsius for the next two to three days,” an official said.

The minimum temperature suddenly dipped by 5.7 degree Celsius to 2.7 degree Celsius on Thursday, against 8.4 degree Celsius recorded on Wednesday. Last year, the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.4 degree Celsius. In last two days, the minimum temperature has dipped by 9.5 degree Celsius.

With a sudden drop in the minimum temperature in the city, people have again started wearing woollen clothes to protect themselves from the chill.

Nashik known for its cold temperatures, has started experiencing a chill in the weather. The city had seen a pleasant few days people were enjoying the winter.

On Thursday December 22, 2011, the temperature was 9.8 degrees Celsius which dropped further by a degree the next day. While the morning and evenings show a dip in the temperature, the afternoons are still warm with around 28 degrees Celsius.

The winter has also seen the arrival of visiting birds at Nandur Madhmeshwar bird sanctuary and many enthusiasts are seen flocking about 50 kms away from the city to watch the visiting birds.

The city wears a colorful look as people are seen dressed in winter clothing. Bonfires at nook and corners is a common sight.

The mood in the city is festive with children busy with school functions and cultural programmes. The city is also witnessing the 20-20 Nashik Premier League cricket matches and exhibitions like the Children’s festival.

“Winters in Nashik are good. A few years ago the winters used to be really cold. By December the temperatures dropped around 5 degrees Celsius. A nice chill is awaited which gives an occasion for hurda parties on the farms and savouring of other winter delicacies”, says Vikram Giridarshan who lives in Nashik.

So, on the fourth day of his marriage, his young wife did not allow him to sleep. She laid out gold ornaments and lots of silver coins in a big heap at the entrance of her husband’s room and lighted many lamps all over the place. She went on telling stories and singing songs. When Yama, the god of Death, arrived there in the form of a snake, his eyes got blinded by the reflection of those bright lights and could not enter the King’s chamber. So he climbed on top of the heap of ornaments and coins and sat there the whole night listening to the melodious songs. In the morning he quietly went away. Thus the young wife saved her husband from the clutches of death. Since then this day of Dhanteras came to be known as the day of “Yamadeepdaan” and lamps are kept burning throughout the night in reference to the worship to Yama, the god of Death.

According to another popular legend, when the Gods and demons churned the ocean for ‘Amrita’ or nectar, Dhanvantari ,the physician of the Gods and an incarnation of Vishnu emerged carrying a jar of the elixir on the day of Dhanteras.

Sugreeva, the Kishkintha prince in exile, came to know about Rama and Lakshmana through his lookouts, wandering in the Risyamukha forest. He felt queasy, and after discussing with his assistants, who were also hiding along with him, asked his emissary Hanuman to go and check on the two. He initially thought that his brother Vaali might have sent spies, to finish him off in the forest itself.

Lord Hanuman, on seeing the princes, was drawn towards them with an unknown but powerful force, and after coning to know of their problems and identities, reverted to his original form, went on his knees and explained to them his own position. He told Lord Rama and Lakshmana about who he was and what brought him to Risyamukha Mountain. He then explained to the princes about the problems of Sugreeva, and what really happened between the twin brothers.

Lord Hanuman made several references to the similarities between the problems faced by Rama and Lakshmana, and to that of Sugreeva. He told them, about what Sugreeva could do as help, and why it was right to help him. He also assured them of Sugreeva’s capable support, and took them to the exiled prince of Kishkintha.

Sugreeva was surprised to find Hanuman bringing in the two warriors, with royalty and misery written on their faces. After receiving the princes with due respect, Sugreeva, helped by Hanuman’s scholarly approach, made a pact with Lord Rama. Lord Rama would help Sugreeva in defeating his twin brother Vaali and become the king of Kishkintha. In return, Sugreeva would mobilize his great army of Vanaras and search and find Sita.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) here said Pune was colder than Delhi (7.5 degrees Celsius) and even Mahabaleshwar (10.4 degrees Celsius). However, Nashik recorded the lowest temperature at 5.9 degrees Celsius.

Pune experienced its lowest temperature ever in 1968, at 3.3 degrees Celsius.

Over the last five days, the minimum temperature in Pune has reduced by more than five degrees Celsius. Monday’s temperature was more than three degrees less than the average minimum temperature for December 10 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature is expected to remain around 7 degrees Celsius over the next two days, said said Medha Khole, director (weather forecasting), IMD, Pune.

According to Khole, the cold weather will prevail in most parts of the state, except Konkan, due to dry weather conditions and the presence of northerly winds. Konkan has not been witnessing any cold wave condition so far.

Severe cold wave conditions prevailed in some parts of Vidarbha and north interior Karnataka, the daily weather report of the IMD said. Cold wave conditions also prevailed in isolated places in central Maharashtra and Marathwada.

As per the weather report, night temperatures were less than normal in central Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Konkan and Marathwada.

Other cities that recorded temperatures less than 10 degrees Celsius included Aurangabad (7.9), Akola (8.5), Jalgaon (7), Malegaon (8.2), Nagpur (9.1), Parbhani (7.5), Satara (9.4) and Solapur (9.5).

Brahmagiri A place to be!
This mountain is home to three rivers to the east flows Godavari; to the west flows Ganga and to the south flows Vaitama. Ganga culminates in Godavari at Chakra Tirth and river Ahilya submerges into Godavari in front of Trimbakeshwar Temple. The mountain, 4248 feet above sea level has five peaks known as Aghora, Ishana, Sadyo-Jata, Tat-Purusha and Vamdev and are worshipped as five mouths of Lord Shiva. Halfway up the mountain is Gangadwar, so called because river Ganga first appeared here. The foot of the mountain is known as Brahmdari and Gangadwar is among the five most sacred Tirathsthans of Hindu devotees.

Success in plantation of wine grapes in the Dindori region has prompted the cultivators to slowly shift to this variety from the traditional table grapes which have been the bane of agri-industry of Nashik. Shree Dharmachakra Prabhav Tirth, which is commonly known as Jain Mandir is constructed using pink sand and white marble.On the ground floor of these lovely building, is a Pravachan Hall. Here the sermons and the meditations take place. Theres a “Choumukhji” in the first floor and the third floor is set aside for “Ashtapadji”. One among the main deities here is the 24th Jain Tirthankar. This astonishing deity weighs 12 ton and is made of Panchdhatu.

Tantya Tope A Legend born in Nashik
Tantya Tope was born as Ramchandra Pandurang Tope in 1814 to Pandurang Rao Tope and Rukhmabai in Yeola village of Nashik district of Maharashtra. He was one of the finest warriors of first war of Indias independence movement of 1857. He fought against the British army along with Nana Sahib and Rani Laxmi Bai with valor and courage until he was captured by the British General Richard John Maede on 7th April, 1859 and tried by a military court. He was executed on 18th April, 1859 at the young age of 45. His statue has been put at the site of his execution in Shivpuri town of Madhya Pradesh.

Shirdi Abode of Sai Baba in Nashik

Nashiks own Veer Savarkar
Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was born on 28th May, 1883 to Damodar and Radhabai Savarkar in Bhagur village near Nashik city of Maharashtra. He was a fierce freedom fighter and was better known as Veer Savarkar. His revolutionary speeches and bold political stand were feared by the British government. At a very young age he formed his young brigade Abhinav Bharat. Because of his staunch Hinduism ideology he was put in Cellular jail on 4th July, 1911 with a sentence of 50 years but was released on 6th January, 1924 after he appealed for clemency. He was opposed to the partition of India and always held Indian National Congress responsible for it. He expired on 26th February, 1966 after years of illness.

Nashik based Ashoka Buildcon Limited an infrastructure player in the roads and bridges segment is looking to expand its project portfolio in road building as the company is planning a public issue to fund its debt and make it more self reliant. At a road show for the promotion of the company s forthcoming initial public offer (IPO) the company s Chairman Ashok Kataria maintained that the company will continue to grow with government emphasizing on infrastructure development. We have a large potential to grow as the government has been giving boost to the infrastructure development in the country said Kataria.

The company proposes an IPO that opens for subscription on September 24 2010 with equity shares of Rs. 10 each for cash at a price band fixed between Rs.297 and Rs.324 per equity share aggregating up to Rs.225 crore. CRISIL has assigned IPO grade 4 5 indicating above average fundamentals relative to the other listed equity securities in India. The issue will close on September 28 2010. The company proposes to utilize the proceeds from the issue for the debt repayment purpose and purchase of new equipments. We have a track record of more than a decade in the road construction sector. We have already returned three assets to the government after BOT expiration.

The company has 23 road projects of which 17 are operating and six are under construction told Satish Parakh Managing Director of the company adding that the entire existing order book will be executed within a time span of 30 months from now.
