Maharashtra Airport Development Co will invite bids for developing a domestic airport at Shirdi, near Nashik, in the next six months, its vice chairman and managing director said on Friday.
The state-run company will be developing 7 airports, including an international airport at Pune, at a cost of about 45 billion rupees, R C Sinha told reporters on the sidelines of a real estate conference.
“The projects would be offered through international, competitive open bidding,” he said.
The 7 airports would be developed on the basis of public-private partnership with MADC acquiring land and laying down design specifications, Sinha said.
The private firm would be constructing, developing and operating the airports.
After inviting bids for Shirdi, the company would invite bids for development of a domestic airport at Solapur, he said.
In 2-3 months the entire 300 hectares of land for the Shirdi airport would be acquired and in in the next 4-5 months the deal for the Solapur land would also be sewed up, Sinha said. Similar land for an airport in Jalgaon has already been acquired.
Pune international airport itself would cost about 30 billion rupees and domestic airports were planned each at Jalgaon, Gadchiroli, Nagpur and Amravati in the state.
All the domestic airports would have 2,800 metres long runways that can accomodate Airbus 320, he added.
