After talks of air service making rounds for months together, the flight between Nashik and Mumbai finally begins from Monday.
There’s no hype in the making. Nashik is finally getting air connectivity. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Nashik Division, has itself confirmed that air service from Nashik to Mumbai will be thrown open to passengers from Monday, November 17, by Kingfisher Airlines.
The civil aviation ministry has given its consent for the air service. From November 17, the flight to Mumbai will takeoff from the Ojhar Airport at 12.30 pm daily. After reaching Mumbai at 1.20 pm, the flight will be take its return journey at 3.30 pm from Mumbai and arrive at Nashik at 4.20 pm. It will again depart for Mumbai at 4.50 pm and reach there at 5.40 pm.
Air connectivity to Nashik was one of the major issues discussed by Nashikites, the industrialists and the prospective investors here. However, due to one or the other reason, things about the same never materialized.
Air Deccan which was operating the flight between Nashik and Mumbai a couple of years back, too, had stopped the service due to lack of passengers. Subsequently, not only from the administrative level but even on the government level, efforts were being made to ensure that Nashik get air connectivity.
“Air connectivity to Nashik was a major impediment in the desired growth of Nashik. After the scope of growth in Mumbai and Pune has almost ended, Nashik was the only option investors had in mind. But the absence of the service from Nashik was turning them away,” said a source from the industry.
A few days back, the managing director of HAL, Nashik too had given instances of how investors were turning away from Nashik due to the absence of air service, despite the road widening between Nashik and Mumbai was under completion fast.
