According to reports, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Retail has unveiled plans to launch consumer electronics specialty stores under the name, “Reliance Digital” in Mumbai. The company is planning the first “Reliance Digital” store in Mumbai within the next two months. This chain of stores will sell consumer electronics including TV sets, home theatres, refrigerators, cooking ranges, dishwashers, PCs, and mobile phones.
The first such store was opened at Shipra Mall in Ghaziabad in the National Capital Region (NCR). Reportedly, the company is mulling 30 “Reliance Digital” stores across the city in two years’ time, and is looking for potential areas in both Mumbai and Greater Mumbai. The larger plan, the company says, is to open about 150 stores across 70 cities of the country in the next four years. Out of these, 30 percent would be in Maharashtra, with stores coming up in Pune, Nasik, and Nagpur by end of this year.
And, each of the stores will cover an area of about 15,000 to 35,000 square feet, the company says. Nearly 4,000 products from across 150 brands will be sold in the stores. Ajay Baijal, President and Chief Executive Officer of Consumer Durables Unit, Reliance Retail, said, “Apart from selling consumer durables, we will offer attractive finance options to our consumers, and also provide other facilities such as best assortment service, customer service, and royalty in the form of extended warranties and guarantees.” Reliance Retail also has ambitious plans of foraying into their own brand of consumer electronics goods.
