Atlas Copco (India) Ltd unveiled its new state-of-the–art Construction and Mining equipment manufacturing facility at Nasik on September 26,2007, following an investment of 280 million rupees. The facility was inaugurated by Mr. Bjorn Rosengren , President of Atlas Copco’s business area Construction and Mining Technique .
The new facility consolidates the manufacturing at a single location and encompasses 15,500 sq m of built up area in a total plot area of 60,500 sq m. A new unit for production of compactors and pavers will now be constructed on the site.
The factory currently has three manufacturing units covering products such as surface drilling equipment, rotary blasthole and waterwell drills, down-the-hole hammers and construction tools.The surface drilling plant is the largest facility for manufacturing of pneumatic crawlers in the Atlas Copco Group while the rotary blasthole plant is Atlas Copco’s only such facility outside the US. The construction tools plant is the sourcing hub for handheld pneumatic tools for the group.
Atlas Copco has with its wide range of products played a major role in key infrastructure projects in India, spanning hydropower, railways, roads and urban development .Some noteworthy projects are the 1500MW Nathpa Jhakri hydropower project in Himachal Pradesh, the 760 km long Konkan Railway, the Mumbai-Pune expressway and the Delhi Metro.
Apart from infrastructure Atlas Copco is in India a major supplier to the surface mining industry particularly in coal, cement and iron ore and also in underground mining of uranium and zinc.
Reflecting the Atlas Copco group’s focus on India all eight divisional Presidents from the Construction and Mining Technique business area were present in Nashik for the inauguration. The occasion was also graced by key customers from leading construction and mining organizations of India.
With the set up of a dedicated facility in Nashik and the other investments envisaged, Atlas Copco is poised to take advantage of the growth opportunities thrown up by the Indian economy.
